Gurney 2nd graders brought their force and motion science unit to life with an exciting visit to the Zelma Watson George Roller Skating Center! 🛼🎉 Working in small groups, students explored hands-on science concepts, learning about the parts of roller skates, how surface friction impacts speed, and even sharing their own roller skate designs with peers. 🛠️⚡🎨 The trip wrapped up with students tackling the challenge of learning how to roller skate. Along the way, they demonstrated incredible assertiveness—asking for help , persisting through the process, and connecting scientific concepts to real-world experiences. What a fun and enriching day of learning! 🛼✨

🎉 Creative math in action! 🧮✍️ 8th-grade algebra students elevated their understanding of linear equations by creatively writing their names with math! Using their knowledge of linear equations and domain and range, they produced Desmos drawings that guided our Glowforge engraving machine to craft custom wooden keychains. Kudos to Ms. Martorello and Instructional Coach Mr. Volk for designing this hands-on activity that seamlessly connects real-world application to classroom learning. Way to inspire students to think creatively and apply their math skills in a fun, meaningful way! #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls

🎻✨ The talented Chagrin Falls High School Orchestra participated in the 2024 Northern Ohio String Festival (NOSF) at the BW Conservatory of Performing Arts earlier this fall! Led by our dedicated orchestra director, Kendra Karricker, our students joined nearly 500 high school musicians, teachers, and chaperones for this inspiring event. Each orchestra performed in Gamble Auditorium and participated in clinics with expert string clinicians—a day filled with exceptional music and growth! 🎶👏 #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls #NorthernOhioStringFestival

🏙️✨ This fall our 7th graders put on their entrepreneurial hats to design businesses for downtown Chagrin Falls! In small groups, students developed a unique business idea, complete with a budget, logo, and storefront layout. 7th graders learned valuable skills in marketing, budgeting, and design, and voted on their favorite concept. The winning team was Henry, Jameson, Jack, and Gavin and their store New Generation which would allow customers to design and print their creations on-site. This hands-on project encouraged creativity, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving! Great job to all of our teachers and students!💡📊 #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls

🌱🌼 The Gurney Garden Club, led by Mrs. Goodin and Mrs. Kehrier, planted 100 daffodil bulbs last week, thanks to a generous PTO grant! 🌟 This spring, these bulbs will bloom into beautiful daffodils, which Garden Club members will turn into bouquets for the Gurney Service Learning Club to deliver to seniors at Hamlet. 💐✨ Along the way, our students are learning about patience, teamwork, and the life cycle of plants—turning this project into a meaningful lesson in both science and kindness. 🌿💛 #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls 🧡🖤

Learning through play meets linear equations! 🎣🐥 Ms. Martorello's 8th-grade math students prepared for their recent test with a Lucky Duck Pond! Rotating slides challenged students with a variety of review questions while teachers checked for understanding and reviewed concepts one-on-one. Correct answers earned students a chance to pick a duck to win lollipops, LifeSavers, and stickers! By turning the review into a game, Ms. Martorello and Instructional Coach Mr. Volk kept students engaged, encouraged them to answer more practice questions, and made test prep fun and effective! #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls

The Chagrin Falls High School Orchestra hit the road recently to join Twinsburg High School for the Twinsburg Fall Festival Orchestra Concert. Students from both orchestras shared a meal provided by the Twinsburg Orchestra Boosters before rehearsing together on stage. CFHS performed three pieces, THSO followed with four, and the evening culminated in a combined performance of New York, New York! The collaboration offered a preview of an exciting shared adventure—both orchestras will travel to New York City in March to perform together. 🎶 #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls

Empowered kindergarteners who are building and owning their vocabulary? Absolutely! 🐯 Miss Trump’s Kindergarten class was inspired by words they heard during storytime. To keep track of new, challenging, or interesting words, they created their very own Word Wall! The students designed the sign, voted on its placement, and will continue adding words as they learn. The Word Wall is a great example of personalized learning at Gurney, where students take ownership of their education with the support of creative resources and collaborative teaching. ✏️📚 What’s your favorite word? Drop it in the comments, and we’ll share them with Miss Trump’s class! 🗨️ #ChagrinSchools #CFtogether #ChagrinTigers #ChagrinFalls

Great article on cleveland.com about our own students! CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- On a crisp, sun-drenched Veterans Day at Triangle Park, village leaders, and veterans stopped their routines on the 11th day and the 11th hour to honor those who served, currently serving, and service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. Bill O’Neill the Junior Vice Commander of VFW Post 12067 organized the service which included the awarding of this year’s essay contest winner and a keynote address from a local veteran. This year’s essay contest winner was Lauren Brownell from Chagrin Falls High School whose essay included the subject of “Why Do We Celebrate Veterans Day?”. Brownell shared the importance of honoring veterans, not just on Veterans Day, but in everyday life. A lesson she learned from her father who served in the Marines. Brownell received $1000 from VFW Post 12067 for her contest-winning essay. Also placing in the essay contest was second place finisher from Chagrin Falls High School Student Maizie Spremulli, and finishing in third place was Emanuella Chelbezan from Kenston High School. The keynote speaker for the service was decorated Army Lieutenant Colonel Simon Macioch who resides in South Russell -- who served in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Chagrin Falls High School Student Lauren Brownell reads her award-winning essay at the Veterans Day Service at Triangle Park. Seated next to her from l. to r. are third-place finisher Kenston's Emanuellla Chelbezan, and second-place finisher Maizie Spremulli from Chagrin Falls High School.
