Dear Chagrin Families,
I am writing to inform you of an important change to our school calendar. School will be closed for all students from preschool through 12th grade on April 8, 2024. The Board passed a resolution to close school for students that will allow students and families to take advantage of a unique and historic opportunity: the viewing of a solar eclipse.
Our primary concern is always the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Given that Chagrin Falls will fall within the 124 mile viewing path of the total eclipse, staff members will not report to their respective buildings that day and will use the work day to complete mandated training courses and to catch up on other essential work. We believe this adjustment to the calendar not only ensures the District is doing its part to support student and staff safety, but offers the opportunity of time for staff to complete mandated training courses and a chance for all members of our school district to witness and learn from this extraordinary event together from a location of their choosing.
We appreciate your understanding and support in making this day both safe and educational for our entire school community.
Best,
Jennifer Penczarski, Ed.D.
