Chagrin Falls High School senior Fraya Brattebo has been honored as the Chagrin Valley Rotary Club's Student of the Month for October 2024. This recognition celebrates Fraya's outstanding achievements in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.

Brattebo's high school career has been marked by a blend of academic excellence and musical talent. As the current band president, she has been an integral part of the school's music program since fifth grade. Her musical talents have earned her numerous accolades, including a spot in the American Music Abroad Liberty Tour Band, performing across Europe; acceptance into the Ohio Band Directors Conference Honors Band for two consecutive years; and multiple top ratings in District 7 Solo and Ensemble events.

Beyond her musical achievements, Brattebo has distinguished herself in Speech and Debate. As the current club president, she has competed since seventh grade in various events. Her notable accomplishments include winning the Chagrin Valley Rotary Club 4-Way Speech Contest; reaching the State Semifinals in United States Extemporaneous Speaking; second alternate to Nationals; and being named the National Speech and Debate Association Volunteer of the Year for the North Coast District.

Brattebo's academic record is equally impressive. She has earned an AP Capstone Diploma; been named an AP Scholar with Distinction; and has taken a challenging course load including numerous AP and Honors classes. She received the Mock Trial Outstanding Attorney Award at the Mock Trial Districts and has been the CFHS Tiger of the Semester.  In addition, Brattebo was awarded the Cooper Prize Scholarship from the Chagrin Falls Educational Foundation.  She presented at the Ohio Educational Library Media Association Conference when she was in ninth grade. 

Honors Classes include Geometry, Algebra 2, English 9, Chemistry, French 3, Pre-Calculus, French 4. AP Classes include World History, Physics, Seminar, U.S. History, Government, Statistics, Calculus AB, Research, Calculus BC, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Literature. CCP Classes included English Composition 1010 and English Composition 1020 at Tri-C

Brattebo's commitment to service is evident through her extensive volunteer work.  She has served 131 hours with The Mountain Seed Foundation, supporting Ukrainian families affected by war; 102 hours assisting the middle school Speech and Debate team and 156 hours as a CFHS library assistant during the pandemic.

In her free time, Brattebo enjoys traveling, learning about current events and history, hiking, hanging out with family and friends, cooking, playing with her dogs, reading, and going to the movies. She hopes to visit at least 60 countries throughout her life. So far she has been to 11.

As she prepares for her next chapter, Brattebo plans to double major in political science and mathematics in college. Her goal is to study abroad and continue fostering her intellectual curiosity.

Brattebo was honored at the Chagrin Valley Rotary Club's meeting on October 15, where she had the opportunity to interact with local business and professional leaders who serve the community.
