During the summer, Chagrin Falls Schools made improvements to Chagrin Falls High School to enhance the overall learning environment for its students. Part of the improvements included replacing the decades old furniture in the library with modern furniture to enhance student collaboration and support group activities.
Approximately 30 old and worn-out wooden chairs, which had become damaged or were showing signs of wear and splintering, were thrown away. These chairs were part of a larger set of 63 wooden chairs that had been originally purchased back in the 1980s. Out of that total, 10 chairs were repurposed for use in other areas of the school.
The School District adheres to a responsible and transparent process for disposing surplus furniture. The decision to remove these chairs received approval during the July Board of Education meeting. The remaining chairs from the original set of 63, along with possibly some wooden tables, will be made available for public sale in the coming weeks. Those interested in acquiring these items can read the public sale notice on the District website.
It's important to note that the condition of these furniture pieces varied, ranging from fair to poor. Following the sale, any items that remain unsold will be either recycled if possible or disposed of appropriately.
“We are so appreciative to have these modern, flexible pieces of furniture in our library for students to begin using during this school year,” said Principal Amanda Rassi, Chagrin Falls High School. “There is so much collaboration and creativity that happens in this room and I know our students will enjoy and benefit from this new learning environment.”
In addition to new furniture for the high school library, other improvements include adding outdoor learning areas, replacing the roof above the art wing, and upgrading the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
Special thanks to the high school’s custodial staff, as well, for working tirelessly all summer to prepare the building for the return of students and staff.
