Gifted Identification and Services

Gifted refers to students who perform or show potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment and who are identified under division (A), (B), (C), or (D) of section 3324.03 of the Ohio Revised Code.

  • The areas of identification are:

  • Superior Cognitive Ability

  • Specific Academic Ability
           (Mathematics, Reading, Science and Social Studies)

  • Visual and/or Performing Arts Ability
            (Visual Art, Music, Dance, Drama)

  • Creative Thinking Ability

Kathleen Mack

Kathy Mack, Gifted Instruction Specialist

Kathy Mack is a seasoned educator with 17 years of experience, including 11 years as a Gifted Intervention Specialist for Brooklyn City Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s in Education, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction focusing on Gifted Education, and a Principal and Administration licensure. Kathy also served as a coach for the Math Olympiad and Power of the Pen teams, helping students excel beyond the classroom.

In addition to her teaching experience, Kathy has shown strong leadership in education. She served 13 years as a Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District school board member, including terms as president and vice president. She also contributed to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center board, holding the president and vice president positions. Passionate about gifted education, Kathy looks forward to enhancing Chagrin’s gifted program in her new role. She lives in Brecksville with her husband, Rex, and their three children.
